1874 Nashoba County Census
This is my transcription of Document 13575 from the Choctaw National Records microfilm roll CTN 3. It has been digitized and is available at Ancestry as part of their collection titled “Oklahoma and Indian Territory, U.S., Marriage, Citizenship and Census Records, 1841-1927.” [See my finding aid for that collection here.]
The enclosing page for this census return is signed by Morris Williams, Deputy Sheriff. The final page is signed by Davis Been, Sheriff of Nashoba County, and dated 4 May 1874.
The census lists heads of household, with a table of numbers after each name indicating the number of the following residents in each household:
Males under 10 years
“ over 10 and under 18
“ over 18 and under 21
“ over 21 and under 45
“ over 45
Females under 16 years
“ over 16 years
The table also identifies free persons of color and white people. I have indicated where these appear in my transcription. The census also includes data related to agriculture and livestock, but I have not transcribed that data here.
I have given the spelling of each name as it appears in the Census, even when it was obviously misspelled by the enumerator.
